Caring for your leather jewellery
Leather is a natural material that will change with time. Leather only becomes more beautiful with use and when allowed to develop a little patina. To preserve the beautiful appearance here are a few simple tips to follow.
For daily cleaning, simply wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth. Stains should be removed immediately before they soak in or dry.
Use a mild professional cleaner (without chemicals) or a mild soap such as soap flakes or saddle soap. Create suds in a bowl and apply the suds to a soft, lint-free cloth, then wipe the leather (not scrub). Afterwards, wipe the leather with a dry cloth and add a leather conditioner to protect it further. Remember to keep leather out of direct sunlight.
Always keep your leather jewellery dry because it’s porous and will never be completely waterproof. Water can damage a leather bracelet and cause it to stain, discolor, or deteriorate. If a leather bracelet or necklace is worn whilst showering or swimming the life span will shorten significantly. Using a leather protective spray can help repel water but always read the instructions first.
It’s best to take off your bracelet when sleeping or during a heavy workout. But be careful where you place it. Leather does best in cool or room-temperature areas. Extreme heat can dry it out, so avoid radiators, stoves etc.
